What's the Story?
"I was born in 1980 in Solihull. Shortly after this I went to the Netherlands where I joined the Dutch Army, serving as a recce vehicle. After over 10 years of service I was de-mobbed and managed to sneak my way back to England amongst a large group of British Land Rovers. I was then discovered by Lorraine and Gareth, who were captivated by my continental charms and decided to take attending military
me home with them. I now spend my time travelling across Europe on holidays, going to Tesco and
vehicle shows.
"When we go travelling, we like to go the scenic route (if the humans were in a hurry they would've bought a Ferrari, right?) and put some kilometres under my wheels. Recently we spent a week in France, Belgium and the Netherlands, covering 3455 km. Other trips have included a run down to Prague - without a doubt one of the world's most beautiful cities - and a trip to eastern Germany; both more than 2000 km in a week. Not bad for an old diesel Land Rover, eh?"
"When I was in the Dutch Army, I looked like this. This picture is taken from the Army manual "Technische Handleiding" for Land Rovers. The Dutch Army are better known for operating Airportables (The Lightweight), but there were a few of us 109s in service also. We came in 3 versions: General Service, Ground Survey and Command/Recce. I was the recce version, all stripped down and ready for action! My official name was "Commando-/Verkennings Voertuig 7,5 KN, 4x4, Land Rover" but the soldiers usually referred to me and my Solihull siblings simply as "Laro".
"I hope you like my web site. Please have a look around and then leave a comment in my guest book. I'll leave the rest of the talking up to the humans - after all, English is their native language!
"Brrrm, brrrm!"
